Does your wife think that you need a new vehicle to haul the kids and stuff around in? Getting some static that the current family truckster isn’t cutting it? Allow us to introduce you to the BangShifty solution that’s currently for sale on eBay. This is a 1964 GMC Suburban that’s actually a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 packing Duramax power and an Allison automatic transmission. The truck is in great shape and it would be awesome to both drive down the highways and byways and have fun with off-road. More complicated than just slamming a 1964 ‘Burban down on top of the truck frame as the original chassis was shortened by three feet.

The body came to the east coast from California about 10 years ago and we dig the red paint with the white roof. The six inch lift makes the thing sit just high enough to be “big” but not over the top and lame. Part of us is thinking that we’d go with some larger diameter white steel wheels and narrower tires under the truck to give it a more nostalgic flair all the way around. We’re not sure if the LB7 Duramax has been tweaked or messed with (in the hot rodding sense) but if it has not, we’d get on that as well. A tuner and some bolt ons will have this thing making the kinds of stupid power that so many diesel trucks are making these days. We’d never make it a racer, but it would be fun to have something big and fast enough to scare people with on the streets. Plus if you ever have to get to the store before it closes for the night, you’ll need that extra zip.

The dash is pretty neat and does a nice job of integrating the factory 2002 truck gauge panel along with the HVAC controls, etc. All kidding aside, this truck could be driven daily and maybe that is the best part. The reliability of the Duramax and the (relatively speaking) economy of the thing would make this a driver for us, anyway. The seller pretty much nailed the whole package here….at least we think so.
