The Hybrid You’d Actually Want: A Pulling Tractor With Twin 38.8L V-12 Turbodiesels and a 526 Hemi

The Hybrid You’d Actually Want: A Pulling Tractor With Twin 38.8L V-12 Turbodiesels and a 526 Hemi

(By Jason Sands) – (Editor’s note: We have run some video of this massive and insanely powerful tractor in the past but this is a fresh chunk of video goodness that Jason found so we’re gonna let ‘er rip again. Besides, when immeasurable diesel grunt is combined with blown alky power is there anything you’d rather watch?!)

We’re a little light on info on this one, as we don’t speak Danish, but what we can tell you is that it’s completely badass. Even here in the US, tractor classes have interesting rules that allow diesel, gas, radial, and airplane engines all to be combined in various combinations. An alky tractor may compete against a tractor with two jet engines, or two Allison aircraft engines and a blown engine, and so on.

As far as we can gather, what we’re looking at here is the Danish 4500kg Class Champion, who’s running a tractor with twin immense turbocharged 38.8L V-12 diesel engines, along with what looks like a blown Hemi on alcohol. What’s even cooler (than a ridiculously underrated 4,000hp) is the fact that it appears that the alky engine is controlled separately, and is used to add more power only when needed.

If we dig up any more info on this smoke spewing, eye burning beast that can make a tree-hugger spontaneously burst into flames, we’ll let you know!

It’s an odd one. He seems to get it moving using the big diesels and just uses the Hemi to give extra bursts of go to keep the wheel speed up as the weight box moves. I wonder what the transmission looks like?

The Tractor is powered by a v8 as you can ser. Putting out about 2200bhp.
And behind that sits two Russian Transmash V12 diesel engines (normally used in a T55 tank), each putting out around 2500bhp.

Each V12 is loaded with twin turbochargers.
    One for each cylinder row.

From standing start, the two V12s builds up turbo pressure to a certain point and then it goes.

The V8 is later on fired up to give an extra boost and allow the V12s to run full rpm regardless of the sled load.

The V12s is controlled by a throttle lever which is pushed forward. The V8 is controlled by a motorcycle-style throttle handle. Both are combined into a one-hand operated throttle system.

All three engines are connected to the crossbox main gearbox. This means the rpm timing has to be very accurate.
    But the shit works!!

    Great machinery!

If you dont know, a quick fact is that “Slædehunden” means “Sled dog” or something like that

Its funny that even with those two gigantic V12 twin turbo engines the “little” Hemi screams and its all you hear.
