Lions Super Pull Of The South – Unlimited Tractors And Two Wheel Drive Wheelstanding Modifieds – Get Some!

Lions Super Pull Of The South – Unlimited Tractors And Two Wheel Drive Wheelstanding Modifieds – Get Some!

(Photos by Bryan McTaggart) – Yeah, we held onto the most popular two classes until the end of our 2014 Lions Super Pull Of The South coverage. Why? Because we’re big meanies, that’s why! We’ve been staring at these photos by ourselves in the corner of the BangShift eastern world HQ bunker with joy. That joy is mostly derived by seeing a tractor with upwards of six blown, alky engines on it. One of the machines that escaped Bryan’s photographic grasp was a tractor powered by THREE supercharged Allison airplane engines. Unlike European pulls, there were no radials or diesels that formerly powered tanks. This was an all high rpm, screaming, drag race engine stlye affair.

On the front of the 2WD Modified trucks, there are a few things to note. The first is the diversity in body style from the T-buckets to the modern trucks, C-cab pickups, and everything in between. There was a time in the late 1990s when the NTPA banned the use of the T-buckt bodies. We’re not sure why they did that but obviously cooler heads prevailed and the ‘buckets have been at each other for years. Those 2WD machines use a long wheelbase, a single engine, and their success depends on the setup and being able to use the truck to efficiently pull the sled with the front tires up some, not four feet from the Earth!

We’ve had a blast bringing you Bryan’s photos from the Lions Super Pull of the South. We’ll be there next year fo sho!

  1. CPR

NTPA never outlawed buckets. That was the now-defunct ATPA. The logic presented was that fullbodied trucks gave more space for sponsors.
