This 1963 Jeep Camper Is Weird And Cool – You Know Chad Wants It!

This 1963 Jeep Camper Is Weird And Cool – You Know Chad Wants It!

It is not often that I get the chance to scoop Chad on a classic camper because the man’s radar on such things is always firing but today I did. This weird little 1963 Jeep camper is an interesting combo of camper body and Jeep pickup truck mashed together to make a house on wheels the likes of which no one else a the campground will have. You’ll never win a drag race as the thing is powered by the “Tornado” six but that’s OK, you’ll arrive in style and have the most vertical windshield in the place.

Amazingly this thing only has some 32,000 miles on it. We don’t know why is wasn’t cruised all over the country but maybe it was because it took that many years to drive the 32,000 miles with the slugging inline six under the hood. 133hp was standard and 140 was the horsepower number if you had the “high” compression 8.5:1 engine.

Drag strip performance notwithstanding, this truck is in really nice shape. There are no signs of major rot and rust, the interior is dated  but not totally terrible. Some modern upgrades and you’d be living large. It would also be fun for the kids as they could ride in the loft area and peer out of that mail slot of a window that the “upper deck'” has on the front end of the living quarters.

The transmission is a three on the tree and the simulated wood grain continues all the way to the front of the rig onto the dash. That’s the kind of luxury detail a man like Chad expects in his coach!

It is weird, it is slow, and yes we kind of love it. Lots more at the link below.

I’d update it with a lil’ 258 straight six, a gear vendors od , a quality made 4 to 6 inch lift and some 35’s and….etc

Pretty neat, looks factory-done but unable to find any info other than this guy apparently just made a quick four grand on it. For someone to pay the new price I’d bet they have plans…it would be sweet to see restored.
