You know, some vehicles are built for one purpose but can totally be used for another. School buses are regularly turned into campers, old flatbeds are made into car haulers, and  car haulers can be used as rolling stunt ramps like this 1981 C80 could be. This truck is in immaculate shape although it is equipped with an engine that is less than spectacular we’d still love to have this thing in our fleet to haul stuff around. We have not seen too many trucks with this hauler configuration before. During our recent road trip we saw tons of “hot shot” trucks with massive trailers dragging three and four cars but few single axle trucks that actually were capable of hauling that many cars on their own backs. Heck, even this one doesn’t seem capable of actually “wearing” four cars unless they are Smart cars.

We mentioned the engine only because it is the one part of this truck that doesn’t really excite us because it is the 8.2L Detroit Diesel “Fuel Squeezer” engine. This is a weird one because it did not make much power, it did not do much with reliability, and was produced for a short time so parts are not exactly falling out of trees right now. A Duramax, Cummins, Powerstroke swap would get you lots more than you’d get with what is in there now. That being said, this truck is flipping amazing in the cleanliness department. Maybe it was just a paint job but the hauler rig looks to be in perfect shape and the interior looks great as well.

The bottom line is that if we had the scratch we would buy this truck, buy a large 1970s American barge, set the ramps in full launch mode and take that Cadillac/Lincoln/Mercury/Ford/Chrysler up the truck’s back at full throttle and see what kind of hang time we could get. It would be the most watched live broadcast we have ever done if Chad and I had a jump off and actually hauled both of the cars to the jumping location on the rig that was the ramp itself. Mind blown.
