The guys at Urban Hillbilly Action videos have shown us all kinds of wild action over the years but this is a new one on us in the form of a half car drag boat tow rig. This unit is designed to bring the race boat from the pits and put it into the water and then bring it back for service. Made from a Chevy Lumina that was cut in half, it has some hydraulically controlled rams in the back which can either lengthen or shorten the body allowing the boat to be loaded and unloaded.
Having seen some of the cool rigs made over the years to haul racer that were derived from Cadillac Eldorados and trucks with only the front axle used for power, this thing makes all the sense in the world. Yes, it looks crazy but all that matter is the fact that it works. The builder makes mention that they try to travel light so we’re guessing that the thing breaks down into pieces and that the half a car gets loaded in by itself with the boat. We’ll admit that driving ti around town for entertainment would be the best but the local police may not appreciate all that it has to offer.
Racing is about being ingenious and solving problems. Those problems aren’t necessarily all out on the course or the lake as the case may be here. The logistical side of things also must be handled and this machine does it job very well. Because we are almost completely ignorant of the boat racing scene we’re not sure how common or uncommon a piece like this. Either way, we think that it rules. 100% BangShift approved!
It sounds as if this was used to transport the boat to the race instead of a normal tow vehicle. I’d bet it’s rather sketchy on the highway
