Watch This Massive Fiat Tractor Suffer A Clutch Explosion And Break In Half At The Start Of A Pulling Attempt

Sometimes I am convinced that these things are trying to find me. Yesterday when looking for something completely different on YouTube, I happened upon this amazing video of a big Fiat tractor (it looks like a 160-90 model) suffering one of the most amazing ends I have ever seen at a tractor pull. Sure, I have shown you old style farm tractors eating it hard at the pulls by blowing up or even breaking into pieces but never have we ever shown one this big turning that trick. It also highlights the fact that no matter the motorsport, you can never predict what will happen from one minute to the next. The guy driving this tractor was surely at the pulls to have some fun and he was probably expecting to be putting the thing back into the field as soon a she got home.  Like we explained yesterday when the video of the tractor in India getting ripped in half was shown, a tractor’s “frame” is normally the components that actually move it. The big beefy engine is bolted to a big beefy trans and axle and there really is no need for a perimeter frame…until stuff like this happens.

For starters, this machine is not stock. How can I tell? The Mount Vesuvius levels of diesel soot that are coming out of the stack as the driver wings the motor up to spool the larger than stock turbo are one telltale for sure. If this is a Fiat 160-90 the engine (stock) is a 494ci (8.1L) inline six. The factory rating is 160hp and that is pretty stout for a stock tractor but for the reasons previously discussed we’re going on the premise that this baby is far from stock.

Once the driver wings the motor up, gets the boost needle moving, and makes sure all is well with his mighty beast, he steps off the clutch ad normally powers down the course. In this case the driver stepped off the clutch, there was an explosion, a flash of fire, and the massive tractor breaks in half like it is made of balsa wood. This is the highest level of mechanical violence there is because the parts that broke or were severed were about 10x heavier duty than would even be found on  the beefiest one ton trucks from the factory. The cab seems to be intact so we’re hoping the driver was OK.

We bet this guy grimaced the next time he let the clutch pedal out at the pulls!

Scary. People have been killed on the sidelines of pulls from clutch/flywheel explosions like this.
