You know how much we love Mike Ryan’s huge Freightliner around here, right? Chad has made hot laps sitting next to Mike, I have dreamed of actually sitting in the thing for years and we have showed you all kinds of video and action from the rig’s exploits over the years here as well. It broke our little hearts the other day to report that the truck had been crashed during practice for the 2014 Pikes Peak hill climb but we were certainly glad to learn that ace driver Mike Ryan came out unscathed. The big truck took a nasty tumble through the trees but did its job to keep Mike safe and sound inside the (seeming) half mile of tubing that surrounds him. Here’s our report of the initial crash.

The fine folks at MyLife@Speed caught up with Mike after the wreck and filmed this truly cool interview that explains why he loves the truck so much, what happened to cause him to fly off a cliff, and what keeps bringing him back to the iconic race. Chad knows Mike better than I but my suspicions lie with the fact that this truck will be repaired, rebuilt, and back on the drifting, road, and mountain course load it has been on in the not too distant future. It is pretty torn up, as you see in this video but there’s nothing that can’t be fixed in the automotive world, right?

One of the most interesting parts of the video is where Ryan is explaining what the crash felt like. When he talks about the car flying through the tree tops and then falling into the trees, it will pretty much blow your mind.
