Watch This Duramax-Powered Former Ambulance Take Care Of Business On The Drag Strip

(By Greg Rourke – Video by VictoryRedColorado YouTube) – Something that has always fascinated me about drag racing is the variety of stuff you’ll see at the track. Yes, some classes have all started to look the same, but for the most part you never know what might show up at your local drag plant.

Here we have someone who looked at a retired ambulance cab and chassis and a light bulb illuminated over his head. No, not the plethora of gumball lights ambulances have, those were already absent. It’s a 2008 Chevy Express cutaway van with a 6.6 Duramax diesel. The owner decided this would make a dandy race vehicle.
The brief description is that it is a stock Duramax with a tune. We often see hot rodded diesel vehicles blotting out the sun with black smoke, but it’s absent here. Race rubber? Nope, just the stock dual wheels with the likely 235 radials it would have come with stock. It hooks and books without even a flatbed on it for weight.  But it’s enough to shove this 4000 plus pound brick to mid 14’s on Byron’s quarter mile.
What next, a hot rodded Zamboni? Maybe I shouldn’t be giving anyone ideas.

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

They should have kept the ambulance body and a hideously mangled blood stained corpse could have been ejected at the start….
