  • Took it to the Underground Garage yesterday and put it in the @UGGdyno. Base line pulls were in line with last time. Pulled the cap on the exhaust dump and it made 3 more HP very disappointed. Looking at the logs I had some very aggressive timing retard so the on more pound of boost it made pulled timing.

Changed to NGK plugs and tired to make heads and tails of the timing mark. The white part of the mark was over the bend a little. One pull we got a little black about half way across the top. Assuming that the timing mark. I am calling it close enough. Started asking Holley to give me more boost ended up with About 15 psi / 18° and 450 rwhp! Was hoping to see 425, added flex fuel and more boost and it pick up 100 rear wheel!

Planning on taking it to the track tonight. Fingers crossed

    • Rock on! It's amazing what those Volvo engines can do.

      • I still feel like you are still on the conservative side in regards to timing, particularly if you are running E. Our max was 24 degrees at 15 psi on 93 pump gas.

There is a chance the timing mark is not even on the strap. It really picked up going from 12 psi to 15 psi. Part of that might be that we left the timing the same both pulls.

          • Pass one: forgot to turn on boost controller missed third gear 8.5x
Second pass: BC on missed 2nd gear. I set up the BC to turn off if injector duty cycle went to 100%. It did. Hopefully that terrible noise was the WG opening. 9.0x

Third pass: turned target boost down, concentrated on hitting the gears and not as worried about shift speed. New PB! 1.51, 7.34 @ 89!

Fuel pressure is dropping. I assume I am running out of pump (maybe lines as well). I set up a target boost offset table to pull boost if FP drops, have not tested it yet.

I have an aeromotive 340 with a 10 gauge wire. I can't decide if I want to get an bigger pump, lines, a BAP?

I think I am going to try to reduce the E% to around 55% maybe that will stretch it out some, and lower the boost so fuel pressure is ok. Goal of maxing out the stock fuel system was easier than I thought it would be. Going to try to work on chassis, clutch, etc.

Was that on Carb or EFI?

              • That was when it was EFI. I think I even went up a degree or two on the last tune we ran. I'll have to check.

                • I ran the Southeast Street-n-Yeet a couple weeks ago. I didn't fill out a log of each run like I had planned. I do think that I got a data log of each run so hopefully I can remember. I took a ton of tools and only used them to switch tire, un cork the exhaust and remove the headlight.
I played the fuel mixing game and kept fuel 1/2 filled with around E50. As far as I can tell it never lost fuel pressure. I played with the tune a Little added a touch to the target boost up top, and since they were running a .400 pro tree i add a timing retard table while on the 2-step.

The goal for the week was to be one and done, mid 7's and have fun. Day one first pass it was a dog. Go back to the pits pull the log it's got no boost! Why is it not making boost?! I forgot to turn the boost controller on. It's hard to find good help. Add that to the check list. Second pass it went a 7.48, much better!

Day 2 Car ran a PB 60' Time of 1.48 I processed to miss 2nd....

The next pass was my best 660 of the week 1.49, 7.39 @ 93.63 This was at South Carolina Motor Plex.

Turned the car around and hit the road to Carolina Dragway for Evening of Day Two. I was in the next pair to go up when a shower came through. After the rain stopped they dried the track and prep again. I made my hit and proceeded to miss 2nd gear again. Carolina is a 1/4 so I ran it out the back it. There was a hickup at the end didn't sound 100% happy. Get to the timing shack and they don't have a slip, clocks malfunctioned or were not on. Pull back in the lanes and they let me go again. I normally like to give the clutch at least 30 mins to cool but 6 mins later I am back in the beams. With a long drive ahead of me to Hartsville I was not going to complain. Hot Lap hit all the gears. This time the shack has a slip for me 1.51, 7.58 @ 93.84, 11.84 @ 120.5! First 11 second pass! I get back to the pits and take a quick look at the data log AFR looks good duty cycle is ok. Fuel pressure is starting to loose it in fourth. The boost controller is at 0% by the end of the run, But still making 17 PSI with a target of 12, with a 3 lb WG spring Boost Creep!

The next day it rain so we road indoor go karts. Sunday there were some cars spinning and some oil downs so it seemed like there was lot of down time and a lot of people that wanted to run they were going to require 2 passes because some were not able to get a pass at Carolina due to the rain. My pass may have been a personal best but I rolled the tree and left after I saw the red come on -.38 RT 2.2379, 7.99 the right lane does not give mph. I wanted to make another pass but looking at the log the boost controller was now at 0% in third. Great more boost creep I think the air was really good Sunday. I had added a table to reduce the target boost when the fuel pressure did not keep up with boost but it can not help save the motor when the mac valve is already closed. It was 230 miles home and I did not feel like blowing it up or oiling the track so I turned in the 7.99 and packed it up. I overlaid the red light pass with the 7.39 pass and the MPH is up about 3mph. It "likes" the 17psi. The main difference other than more boost looks like I shifted 2-3 200 rpm later and only lifted the tps to 39% vs 0. this may have been where the boost came from It looks like it's time for more / better waste gate placement to control creep and more fuel system if I want to go faster.

Ended up placing 5 out of 10 in the stock shift class. I was just behind 4th (zO6 Corvette ) might have been 4th if I had not red light on the last run. There was a huge gap between 3rd and 4th so not like I was in the running to place.

I had a great time trying to decide if I want to do it again next year. If I do I want to not take the trailer. I would like to work on the NVH. Part of me wants a hatch back or non mustang foxbody.

Next on the to do list is Camaro, paint the hood trunk and rear bumper on the mustang, I would like a lift in the shop.

                  • dang, I missed a lot. When did it go from 2.1x 60' times to sub 1.5's? That's awesome!

                    • It's amazing what you're doing with Dick's old engine. I tried to get him to let me build it instead of the crate motor but NOOoooo! I wonder if you have a bit of crud in the fuel system someplace.

I would have to go back and look, I think the 2.x 60' times were on street tires. Maybe drag radials while I was twisting stuff before the clutch tamer.

I put the Holley Terminator X on it in 2021 ish. Having a 2-step and the clutch tamer really helps the 60'. At some point switched over to 28x9" slicks in hopes of not killing the drive line.

Oh if anyone says that boost is overrated they are wrong. I guess it was 2022 ish I put the turbo it took about 8 months or so to build a "custom" hot and cold side for my $300 eBay turbo. Because I am too hard headed to buy an On3 kit.

It's a great little engine. He could have gotten away with heads cam and intake upgrade, or a supercharger to increase power. The stroker motor does a cool factor.

There could be crud, but I really think it's a volume problem. The flex fuel requires more volume than unleaded. Best guess it was making +/- 480 RWHP at 17 PSI. It has a 340 lph pump and 60lb/hr injectors. In between is stock lines and rails. Designed for 225 HP.

I have thought about playing with the fuel maybe getting some 100 octane unleaded to thin out the flex fuel and help the fuel system last longer.

The first goal is to get another waste gate so I can keep boost creep under control so I don't have to worry about it leaning out. I am ok with turning it down for now and working on chassis / clutch set up and try to look for a few tenths.

                          • I am not good at welding on my back. I don't feel like pulling the entire hot side, I need to pull the transmission out of the Camaro. Not much to update on the car, but I did get a new tool! Does my shop makes it look big?

What is your ceiling clearance height including clearing the door, opener, door tracks?
And what is the working clearance underneath it as pictured?

                                OK, 3 questions,
Who is the supplier and if you want to divulge the price delivered?
