(By Tom Lohnes) – The new Ford Expedition is here, and it rights all of the wrongs of the model launched in 2018, and even adds some cool new features.
Starting with the basics, the 2022 Expedition looks a bit more modern and sleeker than the last SUV, with slimmer headlights and a tweaked grille reminiscent of older models. Inside, the 2022 Expedition looks more like the new F-150 instead of the old one, and adds an optional 15.5-inch touchscreen straight out of the Mustang Mach-E.
Some more interesting news, the Expedition gets two new models, and both actually change things about the driving experience. The first being the Timberline, an off-road model boasting a 440-hp twin-turbo V6, undercarriage cladding straight from the Raptor, and even 33-inch Goodyear tires. This is meant to rival the Jeep Wagoneer with the OffRoad package, and it looks like it will do a great job of doing so.
Sharing the 440-hp engine from the Timberline, the new Stealth edition is not the Expedition ST we all thought it was going to be, but it’s still cool. Sporting a lowering kit and a blackout of all the chrome, the Stealth edition is aimed squarely at the Chevy Tahoe RST with the big 6.2-liter V8, and I am excited to see a big SUV drag race between the two.
