A Sneak Peek at the East Coast’s Newest Nostalgia Nitro Flopper Build

A Sneak Peek at the East Coast’s Newest Nostalgia Nitro Flopper Build

The nostalgia Funny Car craze is still going strong. Evidence of that comes in the form of this sneak peek at Dana Hard’s flopper build which is set to kick into high gear this winter. A 1969 Mustang body on top of a nice chassis which will eventually cradle a blown, nitro burning, Hemi is pretty damned close to BangShifting zen. This project is going to rule and we’re going to be there every step of the way.

Hard is the owner/operator of Camco Racing Engines, an automotive machine shop located in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He’s also a life long drag racer and Ford stalwart. He’s campaigned everything from a B/Gas Mustang to a blown alcohol 1934 Ford retro-flopper that runs down in the bottom six second zone.

He’s able to take this project on mainly due to the river of good, used components that “big show” NHRA teams turn out in large volumes. Let’s just say that cranks which retail for $4,000 and get used for four runs, checked for cracks, and sold have a heavy markdown. We’d never use the words “budget” but it ain’t as bad as you’d think.

We hear rumors that Cory Lee will be assisting in the tuning duties but we’re not sure who will be driving. A couple of big time former Funny Car racers have expressed an interest and wheeling a car again, so we’ll keep our ears open on that front.

Blair of “Bat Cave Body Shop” fame will be laying the paint on and with his love of nostalgia drag racing and insane talents, this car is guaranteed to be one of the best looking pieces in the country, bar none.

Anyway, here’s a look at what the guys at Camco are starting off with (and a look at the “race car shop/toy room that is fully stocked right now!)

We’ll be following every inch of this project, so stay tuned!
