Auction News: Johnny Cash’s Rolls-Royce Is Headed To Barrett-Jackson

Auction News: Johnny Cash’s Rolls-Royce Is Headed To Barrett-Jackson

This black-and-chrome beauty of a 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is heading to Barrett-Jackson, and much like the silver 1975 Pontiac Grand Safari that cleaned house at Mecum earlier this year, celebrity endorsement is the name of this game. The name attached to this Roller: none other than The Man In Black himself, Johnny Cash.

In 1970 ABC gave Cash this Rolls as a way of thanking him for the success of his television show. The car has a driver’s partition, “JRC” initials in gold on the rear doors, and 32,000 miles on the clock.  Silver Shadows were a high seller for Rolls, selling over 36,000 of them, and the values sit between $15,000 and $25,000…certainly not obnoxious money for the car. The question, though, is one that we always ask: what will the celebrity link add to the value? This car was brought to Pawn Stars and offered up for $350,000, and that was shut down. Even after the owner agreed to knock $150,000 off of the price, it still didn’t sell. We hope that the Roller will stay within reasonable price territory (certainly under six figures) and goes to a place that will take good care of the car, but won’t seal it away or retire it to a museum where it never moves again.

And is it just me, or should he have been riding in a suicide-door Lincoln instead?

  1. tiresmoke!

Imagine him cranking down the road in that thing, stoned off his ass (as he was well known to do back in those days)….”Jackson” or “The Orange Blossom Special” blaring away. If cars could talk…lol
