BangShift Question Of The Day: Are You Looking Forward To Anything That May Debut At This Year’s Detroit Auto Show?

BangShift Question Of The Day: Are You Looking Forward To Anything That May Debut At This Year’s Detroit Auto Show?

We’re just a little over a week away from the 2018 North American International Auto Show, a.k.a. the Detroit Auto Show, and we’ve been monitoring the rumor mills and waiting to see what breaks cover, what is being leaked, and whether they are real leaks with real consequences, as some journals found out over some leaked CAD files, or whether it’s the manufacturers going “oops!”, like we suspect with one certain vehicle. The rumor mills are flying with rife speculation for what will and won’t show at Cobo Hall this year. Widely suspected to debut is the 2019 Ram truck line, the Ford Ranger and potentially the newest Shelby Mustang variation, along with vehicles that have already been uncovered, including Lamborghini’s Urus SUV, the Jeep Wrangler JL and the Kia Stinger GT, which we managed to get our grubby little mitts on this week.

So the question: is there anything coming down the pike that you really care about? The Ram and Ranger will be important because truck, the Jeep is important because of course it is, and the Stinger is an underdog that has got one hell of a left hook and a reason to fight. The Shelby is going to be a monstrous Mustang, and there’s some fringe cars that may or may not debut, including the rumored Toyota “Supra” sports car that the company has been working with BMW on. After that? It’s EVs, new tech and an updated Mercedes G-wagen that has ditched the live front axle. Hm.

Just at anything Ford stuff – for fun. It is very unlikely that we will be able to afford any new vehicle ever again, they are just too damn pricey. Love to have a 6.2L F-350 for pulling the race trailer – no way we can look toward SS/Medicare (age 61) and consider any payment on a $45,000~50,000 vehicle. Maybe trade the Fusion Hybrid on another Fusion in a couple of years – this will be year 4 of the note and we still owe WAY more than it’s worth in a trade.

Even if they made something that looked good, there are so many nanny-state computers in cars that I have no interest in anything new anymore.
