BangShift Question Of The Day: Is Your Project Ready To Go For Cruising Season?

BangShift Question Of The Day: Is Your Project Ready To Go For Cruising Season?

Tomorrow I will get you back up to speed on Project Buford T Justice and his long winter nap as we got repeatedly smashed in the face by mother nature to the point that the car was under a frozen iceberg for most of the last few months. This question is about you and your car. Have you gotten your heap touched up, fixed up, and road worthy again this winter? Are you like me and behind the eight ball because of the conditions? Were you smart enough to park your junk and not touch it? Is there another scenario I am forgetting?

Winter is always one of those fickle things where at the beginning it seems like you have all the time in the world to do whatever you want and then the holidays show up and stuff gets busy, you eat a bunch of food and when you awaken from the coma, the birds are singing and your car is still sitting there in the same half assembled pile it was when you last looked it at months ago. Like you, the car fairies have never showed up overnight and fixed my junk either, so I get it. I just want to know who the “type a” organized and prepared people are and the “type me” fly by the seat of your torn pants squad is sitting.

I guess since all of my cars are somewhat projects then none is really ready. My wife surprised me while I was deployed and had the engine in my Austin Mini rebuilt so I’m ahead there. My AMC Matador fender is off and there is about 2 lbs of undercoating I’ve stripped off so far on the floor, still got to figure out why it’s dash lights don’t work, and I finally replaced my Impala’s driver sideview mirror after over a year so by my estimation this winter was pretty productive…

Got my Centurion insured and plated last week, which makes all four of my old cars insured and registered and all four are road worthy and as far as I’m concerned drivable any distance. Been rolling the big convertible the last few days and people are noticing. Daily thumbs up comments from every direction.

Project 55 Plymouth is ready to go as soon as i renew the tag. Project 81 Mirada is about three mouths behind. I won’t even talk about project 72 Imperial.

Don’t even own a project car at the moment, so, uh, no. Maybe I’ll go check on that ’82 Regal with the 327/TH350 swap this weekend.

  5. Scott Liggett

Well, I can get into my two cars and drive them. But, I would not consider either ready for summer as I have many things I want to do both.

Is that “Craigslist” for starts and dies but doesn’t run right? 🙂 Hang in there buddy, you’ll get it all worked out.

Well, it WOULD be, if my relatively new TCI Trans wasn’t pouring fluid out of the front seal. In all my years of working on cars (sice ’64), the dozen plus years my Dad built racing torqueflites, I’ve never had more trouble with a transmission…

The good news is I bought a TKO 600 5 speed from American Power Train a year ago, the bad news is that it is still in the box on my garage floor, so no I’m not ready.

hopefully this is the last storm Brian. Maine broke a cold record two nights this week.. now a blizzard warning.

I’m still holding off on my hot rods until I receive my associates degree in HVAC this fall, then they will be ready to play with next spring. After 20 years in the US Navy, I use my hot rods to motivate me through school.

I just bought an Astro van as my first daily driver in 5 years so, while no kinda hot rod, I’m pretty pumped to not have to share the wife’s Impala. I don’t have to be anywhere any time on a regular basis and I roll the Road King 9 months of the year anyway so not having my own cage hasn’t been a big deal. Still, it’s cool to have my own ride again. It was pretty worn but looks good and runs good plus it has the tow package which was the idea behind getting another vehicle in the first place. Some front end work, brakes, LT tires and shocks, motor mounts and new fluids and it’s rolling good. Hit pic-a-part and found a cherry engine cover console to replace the busted up original. For the first time in my life I’m going to tow my motorcycle to the boonies and enjoy the back roads without having to traverse the increasingly clogged up interstates on the bike. I’ve been doing it for 35 years, I think I’ve earned a rest. Born to be Wild, Worn to be Mild. Hey Chad, I got my BS stickers, looks good.

Yup,even changed the oil on one already. Looks like you are going to get slammed again Brian. Friggin winter dosent want to end. Yankees opening day is in a week and they are playing Boston about a week after that. Hope Boston loses, LOL!. Have fun shoveling….again. Some spring…

  13. TheSilverBuick

Scratch that, I put the Centurion back in the barn, it’s supposed to snow tomorrow, lol.

It’s currently drive-able, but I’d really like to do a hydroboost conversion before another summer of hair-raising panic stops!

Uhhhh, No — waiting on part that is promised for Thursday

Guess we can’t put pictures in here — Missing the Transaxle for my VW — should be ready to terrorize a few V8’s when it’s done

    Project Mobydoba

Picked up the newly recovered front seats for the 77 Cordoba T-bar, custom as apparently no one makes upholstery for this car. Removed all the crappy wiring for the stereo that came with the car found out that it is what was causing all my electrical gremlins at the end of last summer. Hell the amount of fried wires and melted wire insulation it would seem it’s a bleedin’ miracle I didn’t light on fire last year. So that all went in the dump the stereo, amp, and speakers are all going in the garage sale next month and I don’t know if I will replace them yet. Have to build and mount a rack to hold the t-roofs nicely in the trunk as well. Insurance gets renewed on Sat and this weekend is calling for about 15 degrees (60 F) so I’m going for a quick cruise too.

    Project Critter

Runs great, Trans is rebuilt but both rear brakes are seized, so those need attention, on the 78 LeBaron T-bar. I am planning to get complete wiring harness from painless hopefully at HRPT 2014 as I believe they are a sponsor so hopefully they have product on hand.

    Project Family Car

This is the car I grew up with, literally, my dad bought it when I was 4. 69 Coronet 2dr HT 440. Not running no current plans.

And, well I’ll be damned if an 81 Mirada CMX T-bar car (haven’t been to look at it in depth yet) just popped up for sale about 20 min drive from my place. HMMM… should I? or shouldn’t I? Man it’s in good shape saw it quickly last year before it was for sale at the local car show and I think it’s a really reasonable price. I may need a bigger driveway, or I need to hide my wallet.
