WHAT WAS YOUR GEARHEAD HIGHLIGHT OF 2011?

WHAT WAS YOUR GEARHEAD HIGHLIGHT OF 2011?

The curtain is closing on 2011 and it is that time of the year to look back over what kind of stuff you did in the last 365 days or so. Personally, it was a heck of a year and I am proud of what I was able to do with respect to BangShift and with my family. From goofing off with Chad during live broadcasts to tearing my hand open in Kentucky to anouncing drag races in Louisiana and Canada, it was a thrill a minute.

If I had to pick my absolute highlight moment (weekend more specifically) was the recovery of Brutus the tow truck. I had never gone on an adventure like that and having Kerri with me for the weekend was a cool bonus. Yes, it would have been neat to do it with a fellow gearhead pal, but participating in someting that hare-brained with your wife is one for the books.

A close second for 2011 was the weekend spent in the beautiful Lancaster, PA attending what has to be one of the coolest tractor and equipment shows in the country, the Rough and Tumble Thresherman’s Reunion. BangShifter Gene Stauffer was our guide through the sprawling collection of everything from steam traction engines to vintage steams shovels, trucks, bulldozers, and tractors of all makes and varieties. It was pure heaven for me and again, Kerri and my boys were there taking it in.

Those were my highlights…what were yours?

Finally getting to do the entire Power Tour, and the lap around the GM Proving Grounds was the sweetest icing on the cake I’ve ever tasted.

2nd would be the journey with my family to the CC nats in Minnesota. Everyone had a great time and there were memories made that will last a lifetime.

Standing next to the wall at Famoso as the top fuel funny cars blew by ten feet away as I tried to take pictures.

Getting to work as a volunteer at Maxton for the Hot Rod event.

Taking my son to his first car show, at a local speed shop’s open house.

Going to the Nats in Louisville and the shoebox getting a shoot by Street Rodder.

Close second……Bowling Green….cars, drag racing and swap meet.
Watching Brian & Chad in motion doing their thing in the broadcast tower.
    Should’ve taken a safety net.

Purging my wife and I of ownership of our ’66 Fury VIP and blessing our church’s Cars Ministry with the donation. They are currently in the process of doing a MINOR quasi-resto in preparation to auction/sell it and cycle the funds back into the ministry to aid other low income folks with a decent running, free vehicle.

Haha, Scott, that is pretty cool ain’t it?!?! Scared the crap out of me being that close.

I don’t know what I’d call the highest highlight. Too many hair brained things done.

Swapping the AOD out of my T-bird for a T-5 a month or two before Power Tour. Then doing the Nashville-Indy-Muskegon legs with an untested car with my uncle. Driving on the track in Indy was cool and getting to spend time w/my uncle after wrenching on the car together was great!
