Rough Start: This 1970 Pontiac LeMans Wagon Is A Clean Stocker With The Worst Possible Sales Line

Someone, somewhere, needs this car. Brian and I had our little spat involving station wagons this last winter and it became pretty obvious that there is a lot of you that like your roofs long. Nothing wrong with that at all. A lot of you like a bit of muscle in your wagon. The stock 400ci 2-barrel in this 1970 LeMans might not be a fire breather out of the gate, but it’s not a bad start to a good build. You’ll either love or hate the green exterior, and no doubt a couple of you are picturing a seven-passenger wagon with “The Judge” along the flanks. So be it!

But maybe, like me, you look at this Pontiac, which has managed to make it through 45 years of life pretty much unscathed, and believe that less is more. Should things be upgraded? I would upgrade the brakes, the engine, and clean up and straighten the body, and a nice set of Rally wheels, but overall, I’d let the original look remain. Besides, for $4300, there isn’t much room left in the Rough Start budget. If you can get past the bad punchline of the ad (All ready to take the family on that Baltimore vacation) then go for it!
