Craigslist Find: Is The Price On This 1970 Torino A Simple Typo, Or Is This The Most Optimistic Seller Ever?

Have you ever had the moment where you see someone’s pride and joy and the first thing you want to do is to crush their soul by telling them about the twenty thousand things that are wrong with it? If you have, have you ever felt bad afterwards? I’ll admit I have shot my mouth off about low riders and donks before, but there are some where you only have the suspension mods, some tasteful wheels, and the rest of the car has been restored to near perfection at great effort by the builder. The end result is usually the same: foot in mouth, move on.

This 1970 Ford Torino, on the other hand, is one of those vehicles where I would rip the owner to shreds for the modifications and feel completely justified in my actions. The Torino got a new body for 1970 and it looked the business, stepping away from the boxy shape of the 1969 cars. At some point in time, this particular Torino GT fell into a bad, bad situation and the end result is just not pretty.

It’s difficult to tell if the car was originally black or if the car has been painted flat black by the pictures, especially since it appears that the photographer has been messing with Instagram filters on some of the shots, as the photos have a green tint. I’m going with “spray bomb black” since the lower valance up front appears to be gold or yellow. The grille is a custom piece made out of some drilled metal, with a “Trucker Lady” in the center of the grille. Even the hideaway headlight covers have been covered with the material. Going under hood, we have the usual battery of chrome accessories, but the standout feature is the lime-green small-block Ford of unknown size which is hooked to, and I quote, an “automatic but has a shift kit just push it down & it’s in first. It’s clutch less.”

Compared to the outside visuals, the interior is almost a relief. Yes, the console is hand-made but compared to the atrocity of the outside, it’s actually not too bad, and it goes with the aftermarket steering wheel. The SunPro gauges are a bonus, since the 1970-71 Torinos didn’t have a gauge pack worth mentioning. A quick cleanse of all of the stickers and skull toys would do the inside wonders, as well as the fake pedal attachments. Anything else is just par for the course for a cheap CL find.

Which brings me to the price. If this car was $1800, I’d hawk the wheels, clean the living hell out of the car, find a way to repaint the engine and drive it as a fun street beater. But it’s not for $1800. It’s listed on Craigslist for…and I wish I was joking when I say this…$18,000. I sincerely hope that’s a typo, because there is no way, on the coldest day in Hell, that anyone is going to pay eighteen grand for this Torino. I don’t care how sweet the 22″ wheels you put on the car are.

I’d drive it for 1800 bucks. Strip it of all its crap, re-spray bomb it black (albeit a bit better), throw some steelies on it and cruise around.

A mint condition Torino with matching numbers is worth about 18k. That car really is worth 2500-3k tops. These cars where not the medium sized sedans like the other muscle cars, this was a full sized box and it looked it.

    PRICELESS!!!

He once saw a fully restored 429 SCJ go for big bucks and thinks his primered up hot rod is worth big bucks too

showed this to my friends on the fb group 70/71 torinos and we all agree kill it with fire its not worth trying to rescue !!!

Is that a garbage bag in the back? The wiring under the dash is a fire hazard just waiting to happen and those have to be the ugliest wheels I have ever seen.

  7. Tedly

There is something just downright disturbing about this. Feels like I’m looking at crime scene photos or something.

Holy crap. That thing is literally 10 minutes down the road from me. I might have to go see this disaster in person. Would you guys be interested in trading some Bangshift shirts for more info and pics of it?

I can’t believe the guy didn’t even pick up the trash around the car and move the extension cords, creeper, and other junk off of the car.

Boy, the seller really “arranged’ the car for showing off its external appearance!

Maybe the pics were included with the Vehicle Abatement Department’s notice to remove the car before impoundment.

The plastic lard bucket and extension cord may be usable.

With this kinda car, I wonder if the owner has ever stepped back 25 feet and really looked at it.

This reminds of an old Mustang an idiot in town had,had 3 shifters in the car,yet had to crawl under to put it in drive, and also had fake Z-Brick for door panels and kick panels, homemade electrical panel box cut down for fake hood scoop!

  12. crazy canuck

As the owner of a 70 ranchero and a 70 1/2 falcon it pains me to look at this . This is what all the big buck auctions have done . Anything with 2 drs and a 8 is worth big bucks to the owner / crackhead.

Ah hell why not want 18k for this P.O.S. Just like every other car I’ve found on CL here lately. Found a ’55 Chevy Belair for 5k and there wasn’t a decent piece of sheet metal on it. It was super hacked, rusted and looked like hell. More parts worthy than anything, but the dude was stupid in thinking he had a gold mine. He bought it cheap probably and thought he could flip it. Stupid.

  14. NEIGHBOR ?.... HOOD WATCH !

There’s too much of this dump-centered badness in the world.
The torturer of this vehicle should be brought to Justice.
