Ever Wonder What Twenty Years Does To A Car’s Horsepower? Doug DeMuro Puts His 1997 Dodge Viper GTS On The Dyno!

Twenty years can do wonders for aging. In 1997, I was fourteen, filled with hormones, able to run as long as I felt like running, with a body that could take punishment and keep moving with little impact. Welcome to 2017…running isn’t a real option anymore due to spine injuries (which covers just how well I can take punishment, by the way) and if you think I’m getting up quickly after some kind of “whoops”, I hate to disappoint you, but that ain’t happening. The same can be said for cars…sure, on the outside they might look as good as the day they left the factory, but time takes it’s toll there as well, and an easy way to verify that is by a dyno run. Over time, an engine will wear down and some of the horses that were in the stable will escape over time.

Doug DeMuro’s car of the moment is a 1997 Dodge Viper GTS, the poster car if there was one, complete in white on blue and sporting the five-spoke chrome wheels. Hellcat, it’s not, but for 1997 this was Mopar’s open threat to any and all comers, and it’s still a wicked piece today. But Mr. DeMuro has absolutely zero faith in 1990s Chrysler products, it seems, not even the halo car, so he has decided to strap the Viper down and see just how many of the original 450 horses have bolted. He is being kind enough to remember to address the driveline loss issue, but do you think he will be disappointed with the final numbers?

So what are you bitching about? Forget the car…don’t talk with your hands and maybe work on that junior high voice. Grow a pair.

I could only watch 34 seconds of this whinning dweeb…if he had so little confidence in Chrysler quality as he tries to be funny in pointing out, why didn’t he just go buy a ‘vette? I think he fits the ‘vette owner mindset much better than that of a Mopar owner.

I’m not sure how anyone could either read or listen to Doug DeMuro for any length of time.
