This 1986 Chrysler Laser XT Is A Perfect Daily Driver: Turbocharged, Manual Trans, And Decent Mileage!

Here’s a shape that I honestly miss seeing on the roads: the first-generation of the Chrysler G-body. You are probably thinking “Dodge Daytona”, but Chrysler somehow sweet-talked their way into getting their own version as well. They sold it, emphasizing it’s personal luxury attributes and that it was for someone like an executive who wanted a luxury coupe with a bit of sport added in. Riiiiiight…if you bought that line, chalk one up for Lido, because that was pure salesman BS right there. The Laser was simply a slightly more stuffed, certainly more tech-packed Dodge Daytona with just about the same ride quality and power plants. Luckily enough, one of those mills was the 2.2L turbocharged four cylinder Turbo I motor, good for 146 horsepower.

Add in the five-speed manual transmission, one of the last ever seen in a Chrysler-badged product, and the Laser was a tempting enough offer. Nowadays, seeing any G-body Mopar that isn’t a cut-up drag car is a surprise, but seeing this clean Laser XT is nothing short of jaw-dropping…what facility has this car been stored at? It doesn’t look like it’s been out in the sun for longer than an afternoon once every five years! A small, peppy motor, gearing that can produce MPG figures in the low 30s, and a pure 1980s shape that still looks good today…you could do a hell of a lot worse for a daily. You know…like buy a silver bar of soap with taillights.

Interesting as I really miss my 88 Daytona Shelby MT car. That “Enthusiast” seat is THE most comfortable seat Ive ever drove in.Infinitely adjustable.

Chrysler did a pretty good job on the performance K-car seats. I had an ’89 LeBaron Turbo, and I didn’t get sore even if I spent all day in the seat.
