We’ve Never Seen A Car More Ready To Die Than This 1990 Honda CRX – Please, Someone Put It Out Of It’s Misery!

We’ve Never Seen A Car More Ready To Die Than This 1990 Honda CRX – Please, Someone Put It Out Of It’s Misery!

I have an irrational love/hate relationship with the Honda CRX. When they are stock, I love them…they bridge the gap between an honestly fuel-efficient vehicle with a reliable yet sporty driving feel and look. When they aren’t stock, I hate them, because to me at least, they represent everything wrong with import car culture: bad bodykits, defeating stereos, and an exhaust note that doubles as the mating call to a thousand cicadas. I don’t have a happy middle ground with them, and generally, unless it’s a very clean stock CRX…and good luck finding one of those…I can keep on walking.

Seeing the Craigslist ad for this particular 1990 CRX, however, was like that moment the ASPCA ad with Sarah McLachlan comes on. You might not be a dog lover or a cat person, but damn your soul if you aren’t sitting there, tearing up at the thought of the poor beast, abused, injured, suffering, left out in the wet and the cold, wondering what it did wrong that led it to it’s current fate. And the words of the current owner don’t help the situation: “This car was so much fun back when I was younger and silly. As you can tell from the pics, I was going for a unique look. I parked it a few years ago with the intention of putting more time and money into it but ran out of space and moved on to other projects. It ran when I parked it but will not fire now. Should be a fairly cheap and easy fix, as pretty much anything on these Hondas are. Just looking to get rid of it now since I wont make time to give it the love and attention it needs and deserves. Would like to see it go to someone with a Rex passion like I used to have. WILL NOT SELL TO SCRAPPER. please do not even ask if that is your intention.”

But what is left to work with? The roof is long gone, another hatch would have to be modified to make the hack convertible look even work and that’s discounting what is under the leafs, wet carpet, and possibly layers of plant life inside the open cockpit! As sorry as I feel for the poor beast, the only reasonable answer is to donate the useable parts to others and to quickly end this little Honda’s suffering.

I love how the guy says he won’t sell to scraper but he will sell you parts…isn’t that essentially the same thing?
