Chevrolet Performance Sends Out Survey Regarding Potential COPO Camaro

Chevrolet Performance Sends Out Survey Regarding Potential COPO Camaro

On Friday, Chevrolet Performance sent out an e-mail and electric survey regarding the oft talked about but as yet to be 100% confirmed COPO Camaro factory drag car. The survey was sent to anyone who put themselves on the Chevrolet Performance mailing list about the COPO and asked some interesting questions regarding with the engine options, transmission options, potential price point, and other parts/aspects of the car should be. We think that this is one of the last steps in the process of GM gauging public interest in the car, which has been overwhelming, at least from our experience.

We’ve heard that a Detroit area shop has been awarded the job of doing the cages and assembly work on the cars, but we’ve also heard that the final volume of cars has not been determined yet, so we’re not sure if that rumor is true. Will Chevy want 50 of these built or 150? Only time will tell. It seems that 50 per year is the magic number for the other companies in this factory drag car business, so we’re guessing that the final 2012 run will be in that ball park.

Scroll down to read the contents of the email and then hit the link to take the COPO survey:

Thank you for your interest in the COPO Camaro Concept.  We are extremely pleased with the positive feedback received from this exciting concept and our engineers have continued their work in the hopes that it could become a production race vehicle in the very near future.

We are sending this email for research purposes to gain further information about your specific interest level in the COPO Camaro program, as well as to collect detailed information about how potential customers would like these race vehicles configured.

At this point, GM has not decided whether or not to actually produce this vehicle.  If produced, availability will be very limited.  The vehicle would not be street legal and you would not be able to register the vehicle or drive it on public roads.  This is not a vehicle order, and does not assure you that GM would build the vehicle or that you would receive one if built.

Please click on the following link to complete a short questionnaire. This will help us determine your purchase interest of the COPO Camaro, if it were to become available –

Logically, shouldn’t a new COPO Camaro be available with any engine their engineering department can find a way to fit in without major sheet metal work? If they were carrying on the spirit of the original COPO, one should be able to order a COPO Camaro with an Ecotec four if you wanted to compete in some sort of small displacement drag racing.
