Chevy Tells NASCAR it will not run the Camaro in the Nationwide Series

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that GM, when spproached by NASCAR about running the Camaro in the Nationwide series against the Mustang said no. It appears that there was actual thought put into this decision and this is the first semi-defiant decision a manufacturer has made with respect to NASCAR in recent memory.

What’s amazing is that the reasons cited by GM directly echo the fan complaints about the cars themselves. GM wants to race the Camaro in the places where it still actually looks like a freaking Camaro. Crazy logic, but if this were five years ago, the car would have been rubber stamped into the series with no questions asked.

The folks in the palace of pure thought down there in Daytona must be so confused, “How could this be happening? We tell them what to do, they don’t tell us.”

We say three cheers for GM. Having some stones and not just whoring the car into whatever venue it can go will suit their buyers just fine. The Orlando paper thinks it is a mistake, while we think it is the best racing decision they have made in 5 years.

Here’s the story from the Orlando Sentinel
