Craigslist Find: A 1940s Ford Meat Panel/Delivery Truck That Is Complete, Unmolested Barn-Condition Perfection

Craigslist Find: A 1940s Ford Meat Panel/Delivery Truck That Is Complete, Unmolested Barn-Condition Perfection

I’ve been spending more time than usual on the internet looking for stuff lately as a friend has asked me to help him find something. Anyway, in the course of a million Craigslist searches, I found this truck and I cannot get it off of my mind. I believe it to be a mid 1940s model and according to some guys who know, this isn’t technically an F-3 as the seller lists because it was built before 1948 when the F-series was coined. Either way, I am in love with this truck because it is completely unchanged from when it last made its meat delivery rounds during an era when life was probably a whole lot simpler. I have not seen a delivery/panel truck of this era intact and un-restored as this one is.

Power comes from a flathead V8 and acceleration was probably not anything we could call “swift”. The top speed is probably less than highway cruising levels for most of us, and who knows, the thing may smell like old meat. None of those things would actually make me not want it and outside of the potential meat smell the other two things actually make me want it more!

If I got hold of this truck, I would repair the front fender which was caved in during some sort of accident, replace the tires, go through the brakes, an give it a wash. I just want to see how it looks without an inch of barn dirt all over it. The truck won’t be “show quality” so to speak but it’ll be beautiful to me! It would also be fun to plunk an old school blower on the flattie if it was rebuilt and ready for it. While it still won’t be fast enough to be a sleeper, it’ll sound better and hustle better than when it was naturally aspirated.

I would make it roadworthy, clean it up, and deliver meat with it. Standing rib roast cut to order? Yes sir.
And since it’s refrigerated, I’d also be delivering frosty cold BangShift beer.

Reminds me of that age-old question…

Do you know the difference between meat and fish?

If you beat your fish, it dies…
