Grandpa’s Got A Brand New Bag: This 1998 Lincoln Town Car Is A Monster!

Grandpa’s Got A Brand New Bag: This 1998 Lincoln Town Car Is A Monster!

The Lincoln Town Car…the pride and joy of limo drivers, airport “black car” operations, low-ranking politicians, and that nice retired couple up the street. Towards the end, the big Panther-bodied Lincoln was pure comfort in an old-school package: full frame, rear-drive, unabashedly clinging onto old ideas of luxury that were going by the wayside…instead of a cushy ride that provided acres of legroom for passengers and a suspension that flattened the road for you, sport sedans were taking over and the Town Car was an antique brand-new. Then again, it’s a Panther chassis, Ford’s long-running large car that we’ve seen stand up to abuses that most new cars wouldn’t live ten seconds through. So what if the styling pretty much stayed unchanged from the 1998 refresh to the end of the run in 2011? That just means there’s tons of parts out in the world should you get the itch to make a comfy cruiser.

Which, incidentally, someone has done. Using a 4.6L Teksid block that you would find in a 1990s Mustang Cobra or Lincoln Mark VIII, someone went balls-out on the build that includes a Procharger D1-SC and a “holy….!!” list of modifications that would fly unnoticed if it weren’t for the Cobra R wheels and the twin cannon exhaust. Seriously…just scroll through the pictures of the build breakdown:

…well, then.

Saying that I don’t love the wheels is probably the most nit-picky thing I could ever come up with, but that’s really pushing luck. This Lincoln is a beast, a two-ton beast that would give a random Hellcat Charger owner a pause for thought in a stoplight drag. You know the seats are comfy. You know the backseat passengers don’t need to be asked if they have plenty of room. But here, you know that any hyped-up punk who thinks you are easy pickings is about to have one seriously messed up day courtesy of a car they last saw hauling people away from the arrivals lane at the airport. That’s pretty badass.

Oh McTaggart, why must you taunt me so? I’d park the truck and DD the poo out of this monster…and probably double my gas mileage in the process…I like the way the builder of this car thinks…pretty sure we could be friends…

Put the stock wheels on with some beefy tires, and add some turn downs to the exhaust in the back and this thing would be even more of a sleeper then it is now.
