The “WTF?!” Files: 1969 Ford Mustang Wagon – Um, This Could Get Controversial.

The “WTF?!” Files: 1969 Ford Mustang Wagon – Um, This Could Get Controversial.

Hey, look…a neat 1969 Ford Mustang! That’s always a good start to a story, right? The Mustang had started to get a little bit bigger, but with models like the Mach 1 and the Boss 302, 1969 was still a good year for Ford’s pet pony. It’s painted orange but that sure doesn’t look like Grabber Orange to me. Maybe it’s red…you all can make that guess, because every time I do I get skewered in the comments, and we aren’t going to play that “What color is this dress?” game here. Let’s see, what else do we got…Torque-Thrusts with the styled steel “GT Rally” wheels mounted and ready to go if that’s your jam, good call. Black hockey stripe with “351” in the callout area…lends some credit to the claim that a Boss 351 block is underhood, but we aren’t sold on that until we see the proof. Ok, moving back and….whoa. Wait a minute. What the hell.

Why does this 1969 Mustang look more like a 1973 AMC Hornet Sportabout?

We have to give credit…through the one photo of the car itself, the work to turn what we suspect was originally a 1969 Mustang notchback coupe into a wagon is better than we expected. The graft isn’t 1969 Falcon, we already gave that a look. But what donated the roof section to this car? We don’t know and they ad isn’t saying.

“Boss Mustang. 351 4-speed Wagon. This is one of a kind car. You will have the only one” Shaker hood with all original air cleaner. Car is in beautiful condition in and out. Runs and drives perfect, drive anywhere, inspected. Needs nothing.”

$38,000 Canadian is the tag. But we’d suggest doing a lot of homework on this one…we’ve got more questions than answers at this point.

Agree with you totally. Once you get away from the original style it\’s no longer considered a Pony.

  1. Boss 351

Not a Boss 351…. Not even a Cleveland….. Radiator hose connected to intake manifold tells you this is a Windsor of sorts. Clevelands have the water neck exiting straight out of the block. Intake manifold is dry… Interesting build though..

Why would someone distroy a 69 Mach 1? My only guess it was hit in the rear-end, so it the owner had this grand idea creating a station wagon style Mustang using whatever parts they had laying around or still good on the original car. Even though the owner says it\’s a Boss 351 engine. It\’s hard to tell without actually seeing the engine upclose and with the shacker off. It could be interesting driving to car shows and having some fun watching people wonder what they are looking at.

$38 CAD? I don’t care what was done to it for that price.

This likely was not a real Mach 1 to start with. Probably just a coupe with a 302 and a row-your-own box.

Link is no longer working. Says the car is no longer available. Thinking the sellers pulled it when folks figured out the car is not what they claimed it was.

The rear quarters look like a coupe vs a fastback and as we know neither Mach I’s or Boss 302’s where neveroffered in the coupe body style.

I had read that Ford did make a Mustang wagon as a one off prototype. Maybe they wanted to compete with the “shooting brake” European cars of the time, which were somewhat similiar to this car. This car might be just something cobbled together. Would be interesting to know why they built it.

So although there are a lot of comments on here. Koodoo’s to the one who built it because for 38,000.00 you can’t build a car. Try taking it to the guild in Bradford and tell me what it will cost you to have your car done.
BTW. While you are doing your homework on this mustang try doing your homework on how many LS6 chevelle were actually built and how many are in existence today. There are a lot out there
This is all in my opinion and I am not taking away from anyone else.
