This Dodge Dart Is Grandma Perfect, All Original, Unmolested, And Begging For Hemi Powered Sleeper Status

Holy crap this thing is crazy clean! It is absolutely a grandma ride, we know because it hasn’t even had a radio put in it ever. This 1974 Dodge Dart is so clean that there is no way it has ever been mistreated. I can only imagine the stories it could tell, although we’re pretty sure that the 88,000 miles on it were probably spent driving around town mostly. Since it has less than 2,000 miles on it per year, they can’t have gone far at any one time because this car does not have the look of something that has sat for many many years. What do you think?

What would you do with it if it showed up in your driveway? Clearly it is going to need a little bit of suspension love, no matter what else you do to it. And we’d slam some wider steelies out back with the hubcaps still on them to help hide the rim screws I’d be running to keep the drag radials from spinning on the rim. This car is begging to get the little 318 replaced, and we think that replacing it with a stroker small block, or a Hemi, would make it a pretty epic ride.

Tell us what you think.

I’d do the easy stuff: headers, exhaust, carb, intake, maybe/maybe not a cam. Then put the kid carseats in the back and go get groceries like a badass.

    I’d think about some Cragars.

$4,000 for a clean, running V8 Dart? With air conditioning, even? Seems almost like pre-pandemic prices. Just throwing some well chosen mods at the 318 and adding a set of sway bars ought to get pretty decent results there.

That is sweet, you’ve gotta just drive it as is for a while then see where your vision lies. If it lasts 6 months then decide where you would spend $10K for your idea of the best combination of style, speed, and handling.
That’s what I’d do and unless the decision was made to scrap it, I’d paint the roof black first thing.

Looks pretty good. Can’t believe how much the market has changed in 30 years. I passed on LOTS of 2 door cars that were nicer than this one that were anywhere from free to 500 bucks. Oh well. I used to have like 9 nice sets of those wheel covers. Think I still have one yet somewhere.

Not sure why the spare tire is sticking up 4 inches higher than the trunk floor. Did they ever make an N50X14?
