Craigslist Pick of the Week: A Monster 1973 Cadillac Eldorado

Craigslist Pick of the Week: A Monster 1973 Cadillac Eldorado

Whale-like Cadillacs from the early and mid-’70s are kind of a double-edged sword. On one hand they’re cool for their sheer girth and the fact that they were often packing 500 cubes beneath a hood large enough that it could serve as the roof for a car port. On the other hand they are a reminder about how far out in left field the domestic auto industry was in the early 1970s when foreign compact cars began to erode their seemingly fortified market share.

This 1973 Eldo is located down in bayou country Louisiana. We’re guessing it escaped the wrath of hurricane Katrina. The selling price of nearly $6,900 is mighty rich for our blood, but the car is still pretty cool. This yacht weighs in at a svelte 5,094 pounds, rides on a 133-inch wheelbase, and it has an overall length of 222 inches. Sale price when new was about $7,300 and Cadillac moved more than 42,000 of them despite the fuel embargo that struck in 1973.

We bet this one could still do monster front wheel drive burnouts with all that low-end Caddy grunt.
