Dodge and Mopar Coolness At The 2014 Detroit Auto Show — Also, Rumor Mill Has Chrysler HQ Leaving The USA?

Dodge and Mopar Coolness At The 2014 Detroit Auto Show — Also, Rumor Mill Has Chrysler HQ Leaving The USA?

We showed you some cool stuff from Chevrolet in the form of the 2105 Corvette Z06 yesterday and from Ford with the new F-150 and the 2015 Mustang so today we get to shine the light on the Chrysler brands and what they have on display at the 2014 North American International Auto Show (aka…the Detroit Auto Show). There was plenty of neat performance stuff on display as evidenced by the photos submitted to us from our photog inside of Cobo Hall. From big hemi crate engines to screaming green Vipers and performance renditions of the Challenger, Charger, and Jeep to the monster Case tractor branded Ram dually, there was plenty to look at here. Also, the giant Mopar “walls of parts” were set up and showed virtually every one of the brand’s vast array of over the counter and/or dealer installable pieces of equipment. Those parts range from mud flaps to cylinder heads and camshafts, so that’s pretty awesome.

The bit of darkness surrounding the first day of the show and Chrysler were the statements made by Sergio Marchionne to reporters on the status of and potential that Chrysler headquarters could be relocated to Italy. The final decision is up to the company’s board and there is ongoing business analysis to determine what makes the most sense, but Marchionne would not not commit to saying that headquarters would remain here or move to Italy where Fiat is. The reality is that the move would be more symbolically bad as it wouldn’t have a lot of direct effect on employees and people “on the ground” so to speak, but it sure would be a painful pull to swallow for Chrysler fans and we understand that. We’ll keep you posted as this story moves along.

Chrysler HQ moved to Italy? Brand poison. Sergio seems to be moving that way, after all “Imported from Detroit” or “imported from Turin”, what’s the difference, right paisano? Makes as much sense as taking Dodge away from their truck line.

Agreed. I’m Mopar to the core, but I’ll never buy a new one again, ever, after what they did to the Bondholders during the bailout (which should NEVER have happened, and no, its not the same thing as the loan Iacocca made to save the company). Never buy anything GM new again, either; although there was never any real danger of that happening. What a pathetic shame. .

I’m with you Gary. I’m an old man now but I still bleed Mopar blood. I too will never buy another American made car. I’ll keep my Corvette but my next 2 family cars will be a Range Rover and a Volvo because of Obongo climbing in bed with the unions and bailing out the car companies. Fuck Obongo, fuck the unions and fuck Fiat ! You won’t get anymore of my money you miserable pricks.

It depresses the ever lovin hell out of me that I can’t find one vehicle in that lineup that really interests me.

Did they hire the same dope smoker that designed the new Corvette to design the new Cherokee and Viper?
I’m a Mopar or no car guy but if Chrysler move out of the country I’ll have to start buying new Fords.

Not sure where this rumor came from …. the only thing I have seen in the press is that Marchionne would consider INCORPORATING a new company in a country other than US or ITALY like was done with Case/IH. This is different than where the base of operations is. Chrysler, like most large US companies, is incorporated in Delaware. That is not where Chrysler HQ is.

He has said repeatedly that they would make this choice based on access to capital. So, think about it… would banks rather lend to a company based in Italy or US? He has seen how hard it is for companies to raise money in Europe.

@CPR – Correct! You would be amazed by the number of people inside Chrysler who think their Hemi crate program should be just like the program run by Brand X; as if there is competition between brands at that level. When you ask them, “so, the typical Cuda owner actually considers putting a BBC or Coyote motor in their engine bay?” they just stare at you and blink.

Ever consider that the Ram Truck line was split off from Dodge so that Fiat would still have a truck line if they decide to kill Dodge/Chrysler?

Same stuff they showed at SEMA. Nothing EPIC here. Sad commentary. They don’t even have a performance parts manager or anyone steering the boat. and the PR people aren’t particularly friendly. I like their cars more than the Hot Wheels Camaros or the Mustangs, but they’re a rudderless ship. The people at the shows can’t even answer basic questions about their performance parts.

  8. Mopar Poor

I would be very upset if they move the Head Quarters, I am a life long Mopar man, but would have to reconsider buying any future Chrysler products if they move to Italy.

Agree, agee, agree. I’m Mopar to the max but this does it for me. Every time I go to a Mopar dealer either to sales all I get is an attidute. Mopars have been overpriced forever. I have a Grand Cherokee that is a total p.o.s. My Durango gets 12 m.p.g. and everytime I buy something for my Dart it is twice the price for a G.M. or Ford. $18k for a Hemi or $48k for a Challanger. C’mon
