eBay Find: 1962 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty That’s Nearly All Original

eBay Find: 1962 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty That’s Nearly All Original

In the early 1960s, if you wanted to be the fastest guy on the block, you ponied up for a Pontiac. If you wanted to be the fastest guy in the county you went to the biggest Pontiac dealer you could find, sought out the sales manager who knew what boxes to check and which people to call at corporate and then you waited for your Super Duty Catalina to show up. After receiving the keys, you promptly kicked everyone’s ass that tried.

This lightweight, limited production, Poncho is truly awesome. The 405hp rated 421ci motor is original to the car. According to the seller, the block has not even been out of the car before. Those twin Carters on top are feeding one of Detroit’s most enduring V8s, having been around in multiple displacements for about 30 years.

The seller claims that the paint is “80%” original, the car has a 4.30 rear end, a four speed transmission, 15 inch wheels, and it is both radio and heater delete. If it didn’t make this thing lighter or faster, it wasn’t part of the program.

Speaking of lighter, this car has an all aluminum front end and the factory aluminum, yes aluminum exhaust headers. The non-ferrous nose includes the bumpers, all the brackets, hood, fenders, inner fenders, and radiator support. These are parts that honestly fall into the unobtanium category finding some of this stuff in a barn would make for a book all in itself.
