eBay Find: A Huge Pro Street 1976 Olds 442 With Awesome Paint, Big Olds Power, And Chris Alston’s Chassisworks Components!

What’s large and lovely and smells just like a dream? This mondo by huge 1976 Olds 442 pro street bruiser, that’s what! Fine, we’ll admit to not being that crazy about the hood scoop the first time we saw it, but when we gazed upon the goodness that is the big tunnel ram equipped Oldsmobile engine providing the power to this unit, the scoop seemed at least necessary and a round one would look really bad. That being said, we were tolerant of the scoop by the time our heated internal debate ended. This is a really nice car in our opinion. The body is perfect, the tire fitment and tuck is perfect, the use of the factory style wheel centers on the back is bad ass, the stance is minto, what’s not to like? Sure the interior is spartan and stuff but this is a pro street car. There’s no tweed or 1990s stuff in there, just lots of sheetmetal and plenty of leg room for the driver and the passenger with the moving of the seats back and the removal of the back seat area.

According to the ad, the motor is as follows –

Under the hood & peeking into the mailbox is a professionally built 455 Oldsmobile featuring 12 to 1 flat top .030 forged pistons, Mondello rods, steel crank & oil restrictors, Milodon oil pump, pickup & 7 qt. oil pan, Mondello upper & lower wind age trays, ENGLE – JM 25/28H camshaft with Cloyes dual roller, Harlan Sharp roller rockers with comp cam push rods, ARP rod, main & head studs, Edelbrock aluminum heads port matched with platinum plugs & MSD wires, Mallory unlite with Pro-Master coil and Crane HI-6 with adj. rev limiter, Offenhauser tunnel ram with Edelbrock dual 750’s, Holley blue fuel pumps & regulator, Fram fuel filters, NOS 250 H.P. Sportsman fogger Nitrous system (has never been used), CSR Electric water pump with 2 core aluminum radiator & dual fans, Hooker super comp headers to 3” Flow Master out to custom side tips.

As far as the transmission and suspension –

Transferring the power is a Turbo 400 automatic equipped with full manual valve body, 3000rpm stall torque converter, nitrous plate, remote trans cooler and Hurst pistol grip quarter stick shifter with Nitrous button. Bringing the rubber to the road is a stout Chris Alston FAB-9 rear differential with Yukon 4:56 gears, powder coated housing, Chris Alston back halved with fully adjustable ladder bars & track locator, Strange axels & rear disc brakes with slotted rotors, SSBC front disk brakes with slotted & drilled rotors, McGaughys 2” drop front spindles & 2” drop front springs, front and rear 3 way adjustable shocks with HAL rear springs, Global West upper & lower control arms, MOOG steering components and custom built drive shaft with safety hoop….

This is not some slapped together freak show pro street car. It seems to have been professionally constructed and invested in. The paint and body alone was worth a bunch of money to have done to this level of goodness. You know we like our big cars around here and those done in the pro street style are really cool to gawk at. We want this thing bad and you will too after checking out the photos and the video below. Holy mother of badder asser pro street goodness….I think i got wood…

Loose the scoop, let that tunnel ram be seen..no sense in hiding something so purdy under something so damned ugly.

I’m not a fan of pro street at all but I dig this car. I even like
the hood scoop on this car, kinda fits the vibe.

I’m also not a fan of the scoop…but does anyone else see a slight resemblance to the 1969 Hurst/Olds scoop? They also had the squared off opening, although it was a dual scoop.

leave the hood on, it looks like hell under there. raggedy ass looking headers. it looks like stevie wonder plumbed that thing the scoop totally makes it. that’s what they had in the late 70’s early 80’s. need a spoiler and some wheelie bars to finish it up.

I believe I’m seein’ a Camaro-style spoiler on the rear (Did you want a “picnic table”?)

Wheelie bars on the street? ‘Not legal in some states and dangerous at free-rein car shows ’cause the dee-tee-dees trip over ’em.

Personally, I hope Pro Street re-emerges and that Olds fills the bill! Me likey!

I love how the rear rally wheels were widened. I’m not a fan of the scoop my self, I think it could have been done a bit better.

There is not much you can do with a mid-70’s A-body but this Pro Street Cutlass looks bad ass! Wouldn’t change a thing to the car!

    oh man, thing I’d do..
only thing I’d change is the wheels, I loved the look of the 79-80 w-30 44 alum wheels my dad had on his 77, the ones on it are cool, but I dig the look the alum ones gave this body style. but to copy them for something like this would be huge money, as the 79-80 w-30 wheels where 14″ but they just looked right..
That could’ve been a 442 or a cutlass “s” both came with those tail lights.

Normally I can’t stand the A bodies from this era, but this one is pretty cool. I like the scoop except its not put on right. It’s supposed to be up against the windshield and that back edge should be even with the glass. Whoever did the install didn’t know what they were doing.
