You simply can’t go wrong with a second-gen F-body. What’s your flavor? Want a Joe Dirt ready, beat-up brawler that will scare and horrify onlookers? Go for shackles in the back, mags all around and fake sheep fur seat covers. You want the kind of beast that made insurance companies panic, the kind that brought on wicked grins on the faces of drag announcers and those in the know at gatherings before some illicit racing went down? Two words: Phase Three. If you know, you know. From show to go to “oh, God, no…” there is a Camaro or Firebird that fills that particular niche. So, where does this 1973 Z28 fit in?

The story is that the car has three owners in it’s past, just over 60,000 miles on the clock and has only had a mild restoration to keep it looking decent. It’s not perfectly original…the HEI ignition conversion isn’t right, for starters, but who cares, really? It’s a pretty red/black Camaro with the basic nose cone setup, the basic dash cluster, and the big ducktail spoiler that hasn’t been cut up, hasn’t been screwed with too much, and would make for a killer ride for anything goes. Let’s be honest…a LOT of second gens got butchered up over the years in the name of image enhancement or the pursuit of power. Seeing this one more-or-less left alone is actually kind of nice.

Oh, what the hell am I saying? That engine that Lohnes put up today would be a perfect fit under the hood!
