(Photos by Bob Chiluk and Greg Rourke) — As if we have not shown you enough of the epic 2013 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals car show, we’re back with another fresh load of images today from the cameras of Bob and Greg, our czars of midwest coverage. Today’s collection of photos focuses on some truly neat old school pro stock cars, several barn find cars that range from road going hot rods to crusty former racers, some amazingly rare AMC products (like Dick Teague’s personal AMX) and a photo that shows one of the coolest and rarest speed parts ever built. No hyperbole there, only truth.
The part we’re talking about is a Latham axial supercharger which is on top of a small block Chevy powering a first generation Corvette. Axial superchargers are (for lack of a better term) belt driven turbines. They have rows of fins attached to a drum and the rows are staged. Unlike a turbo that uses a wheel in a housing or a roots blower that uses rotors, these small fan blades spin and compress the air, shoving it into the engine. The design is a proven one to work but when Latham was building them in the 1960s the advanced construction techniques of today weren’t available. These units worked and they pop up every now and again but they aren’t nearly as efficient as they could be and they were expensive as hell. Less than 600 were made over a 10 year span and they are highly prized pieces by guys who like vintage stuff today. The side draft weber carbs were standard issue with the superchargers as their preferred fuel supplier. It is engine porno. Look through the gallery and find the photo, it rules.

I really enjoy all the photo gallery’s you show. I almost feel like I am at some of them. This is not a complaint, but is there any way at all the pics can be captioned? I grew up in the late 60’s & the 70’s and know & remember & have seen in person a lot of these cars. It would be nice to know the back-story of these cars. What is the story of the ’56/7 Corvette with the 4 side draft carbs? Where was some of the barn-find cars discovered & their story? etc., etc, etc. Thanks Brian & Chad for listening!!! You guys are it & the others are trying to catch up.
The interior of that 68 ford in the first gallery reminds me of some interiors I’ve had.
I’ve got to add this to my bucket list, I like all the drag cars and barn finds you’ve photographed.
I visited multiple blogs but the audio quality for audio songs present at this web page is really wonderful.
