Cool Gallery: Pace Cars at the AACA Museum – Hershey, PA

The pace car, or as they call them in Europe, the “safety car” is a pretty important part of the road racing and circle track racing equation. There is a huge glory factor involved as well. Manufacturers love to get their stuff out in front of the pack and right into the laps of millions of spectators every year. In today’s world, it isn’t uncommon to see special “pace car” editions rolling off of showroom floors.

Our favorite cars in this exhibit are the giant offerings from the 1940s and 1950s. To think of a big old Mercury making full steam around Indy or the Milwaukee mile or some other historic course with a local celebrity or race official behind the wheel, makes us smile.

Hit the link below to see some old (and some not so old) pace cars, along with a bunch of other cool stuff at the AACA Museum.
