Cruise Coverage: The First Ever Costumes and Cruise In For A Cure – Great Cars And A Great Time

Cruise Coverage: The First Ever Costumes and Cruise In For A Cure – Great Cars And A Great Time

(Words and photos by Tommy Lee Byrd) – Let’s face it, Halloween isn’t typically a holiday that invites car guys to get out and play. Memorial Day weekend, sure….Fourth of July, yep…Halloween, not so much. So, when we heard about an event called Costumes & Cruise In for a Cure, we didn’t expect an outstanding turnout of cars. For starters, it was held on a Wednesday afternoon, which is tough for the hard-working blue collar crowd. To our delight, the First Tennessee Pavilion was packed with cool cars, and lots of Trick-or-Treaters, making this first-time
event a huge success.

The key to success was the promoter, who is a car guy…more specifically a Mopar guy. Ken Meredith, an automotive paint supplier, put the event together and invited car guys from around the area to take part in the fun. Ken is also a co-host on weekly radio shows, so he had a great avenue for promoting the event and gathering sponsors. His efforts, along with many folks behind the scenes, made for a great event. The best part? All proceeds from event sponsorships and donations went directly to the American Cancer Society.

There were a bunch of great cars and trucks on hand for the show. Be sure to take a close look at the massive wrecker, a 1.5-million-dollar rig that is the top of the food chain. Also, check out the Dodge “Little Red Express Truck” which sits just right and has a Cummins turbo diesel swapped in place of the original 360ci V8. And since Ken is a Mopar guy, he invited all his Mopar buddies, who came out in droves.
