(Photos by Joe Grippo) – Earlier this week we showed you some great photos from the 2015 Motorsports and Race Car Trade Show which celebrated its 30th year in 2015. Held outside of Philadelphia, this thing brings a massive group of race cars and cool stuff together. Literally every form of racing you can imagine is represented and polished up for the event. As we mentioned previously, this is one of those times when guys with totally different tastes and interests at the track can all get together and check out each others’ stuff while also ribbing themselves about their proclivities. From polished up funny cars to historic open wheelers, this show had it all.
Shockingly, we love the photos of the old stuff. It seems almost fantastic to think about guys racing around Indy in those old front engine roadsters with tires that you can barely lay a quarter across at huge speeds. The fact that so many of the old cars have been preserved or restored makes us respect their history even more. The stock car and drag race guys have their history well represented here, too. There’s truly something for everyone. Check it out by clicking the link below.
There’s a blast from the past. I did a pile of fab, welding, and machine work on that #43 Indy car. Made a lot of parts from pictures scaling them from surrounding parts. We put what was rumored to have been the last new still in the crate Offy 270 in it and the owner made laps at Indy the week before the big race that year.
