One of the things I found really neat about Bonneville is that, like stock car racing, lots of the cars are known by their numbers. The 911 roadster being one example. While I was cruising the salt, I was conscious to look at cool car numbers and lettering that I saw. I have hundreds of photos of just numbers and letting on cars that I’ll be bleeding out over the next few weeks. A couple of these may be familiar to you even if you were not on the salt as they’re numbers off some of the better known LSR cars in the realm.
Obviously, in the old days it wasn’t much about making the numbers look nice as much as it was making sure you had a number on the car so you could be identified and that race control could give you accurate timing and scoring data. Even today there are more than a few cars that have simple stick on letters, which are functional but they don’t have any artistic flair like the stuff you’ll see below. From gold leaf to old school distressed, there’s gotta be a look in this collection of snaps that suits you.
