(Photos by D.V. Klenak) – If you have not heard of the ChumpCar World Series, you must be living under a rock. The low buck, high fun, racing series has been around for years and they run races all over the country from January to late December. The basic premise is that the car you are racing has to have a market value of $500 bucks. That means old Datsuns, Neons, VWs, clapped out Mustangs, and any other car that has even the most vague potential of turning a corner is a good pick. Take for instance the Chevette below, which rules all. Teams are encouraged to get creative with their cars as well. You’ll see cars with shaggy fur on them, weirdo paint schemes, funny names, etc. Yes, it is a race, but it is also an excuse to have a damned good time.
We got an email from D.V. Klenak alerting us to the fact that she had shot a gallery of photos while hanging out with her friends at the recent ChumpCar event in Shelton, Washington. She submitted an awesome gallery of about 70 photos that capture on-track action, pit thrashing, and lots of cars that will make you smile and get your wheels turning on how to participate during the 2013 season.
An event that highlights mechanical creativity, fun, and there’s a race involved? What’s more BangShifty than that?!
Thanks to D.V. Klenak for the gallery (and for sparking our obsession with competing at a ChumpCar race next season!)
