The 2012 Hunnert Car Heads Up – Bitchin’ Nostalgia Drag Action Gallery

The 2012 Hunnert Car Heads Up – Bitchin’ Nostalgia Drag Action Gallery

(Photos by Greg Rourke and Bob Chiluk) – While Chad and I were jamming photos and video down in Bowling Green, Kentucky, our two Midwestern lensmen, Greg Rourke and Bob Chulik hit historic Great Lakes Dragaway in Wisconsin to photograph the 2012 Hunnert Car Heads up drag race put on by the Chrome Czars car club. This is a killer event and we were bummed that it was on the same weekend as Bowling Green because we wanted to see it ourselves! Thankfully Bob and Greg were there to bail us out!

As you will see, this is a no-pomp deal. It is about bitchin’ cars that really embody the old school spirit of the drags. You show up, run it as hard as you can, and have fun doing it. Not much more complicated than that. In this gallery you will see some monster wheelstands, a 44ci (yes, that is correct 44ci) Crosley powered dragster, tons of sublime hot rods, altered wheelbase cars, and more retro-goodness than you can shake a stick at.

The boys reported that there was about 45-minutes of rain which didn’t stop the event, but only delayed it for a little while. Once the track was dried, the cluch dumping, gear banging, wheel standing fun began anew. With a 1965 and old cut off, hand written time slips, flag starts, and basic safety rules, the Chrome Czars have kept it pure and true to its roots.

Big thanks to Bob and Greg for this 100% BAD ASS photos. They really knocked it out of the park! Hit the link below to see the gallery!

We understand this was the Comets first public appearance. It appeared they used paint to tint the windows, you could barely see through them.
