Fire Rips Through Kiwi Race Car Shop, Cars Cooked

Thanks to a tip from Darr Hawthorne, we learned about a serious fire that caused major damage to a special interest car shop down in New Zealand. Among the car-b-que victims was a real AC Cobra. Even more seriously, the shop owner nearly lost his son in the blaze, according to a Stuff.co.nz story.

Colin Welch is the owner of Kiwi Race Cars, and his son, who is unnamed in the story, was working when the fire broke out. Seeing as it is the summertime down in that part of the world, the shop doors were open and the wind helped to supercharge the fire and spread it quickly.

Luckily for both the cars and for Mr Welch’s son, the building’s layout prevented a total loss equipment and a loss of life for his son. Fire sucks really bad and there are far things more horrifying than watching your property, or your customer’s, burn in front of your eyes.
