Ford Brings “One Ford” Concept to Drag Racing and John Force racing to Lead Contingent

In two related pieces of drag racing news from FoMoCo, it was announced that John Force Racing has signed on for another five years of corporate backing from the blue oval crowd, and that Ford’s corporate “One Ford” initiative has been brought to drag racing. In NASCAR, the “One Ford” concept saw all Ford teams sharing engine technology and the result was a strengthened showing from Ford teams. Jamie Allison, the director of Ford Racing North America, expects the same outcome at the digs.

So in reality what does this mean for teams running under the Ford banner? For the nitro ranks it means that John Force Racing and its considerable R&D power will now benefit all Ford racers instead of just John Force Racing. Force has always been ahead (if only slightly at times) of the testing and developmental curves, bringing the use of stuff like blower dynos into vogue. Bob Tasca III and Tim Wilkerson will be exposed to some data and technology they may not have seen in the past.

What is not mentioned is whether or not this program will be in place with Pro Stock racers, where Ford is back for the first time in years. We have to believe that the same concept will be in effect with those racers because (even though they aren’t) the Pro Stocks are the closest thing to a production car on a Pro level.

As you’d expect, the ESPN story (linked below) covering the announcement and thought process behind “One Ford” has some good stuff from quote machine John Force. We took interest in his comments about selling full nitro engine programs from his new shop in Indiana. Like we said, Force always seems to be thinking one step ahead.
