In The Big House: Former Craftsman Truck Driver Indicted For Running Ponzi Scheme

Ah, NASCAR. Just when we were wondering what happened to Jeremy Mayfield, word comes down that Brian Rose, a former NASCAR Craftsman Truck racer who was suspended indefinitely for refusing to take a drug test after an arrest for possession of drugs and a weapon, has been indicted for mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy charges in Greenville, Tennessee, along with eight others who allegedly assisted him.

According to court documents, Rose (who was under the name John Hankins) had set up a front company called New Century Coal and had associates target investors, selling nonexistent shares of New Century. The group had acquired over $15 million dollars, which was spent on racehorses, race cars, and gambling trips in Las Vegas. At his indictment, Rose was deemed a flight risk and is currently being held until trial. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years and a minimum fine of $200,000, plus whatever settlement comes out of the lawsuits brought by the investors.

As more details emerge, we will bring them to you.
