Friday Excuse to Go Home Early and Drink: GM to Close the Last Cadillac Dealer in Detroit

Dalgleish Cadillac, the last remaining Cadillac dealer in Detroit and a dealer who has been selling Cadillacs since 1954, has been notified by GM that they will be not be part of the GM dealer network anymore by September 2010.

Obviously the Dalgleish family whose patriacrh still comes to work every day at 80 years old is not happy with this decision and is disgusted with the way it was handled. Apparently a letter signed, “General Motors Corporation” was the delivery method for the bad news. That’s chicken-bleep.

The dealer plans to fight the closure and although no one has succeeded in doing that thus far, none were located in metro Detroit and had community support at the doorstep of GM. This guy could make life uncomfortable for company execs and it seems like that is his plan.

We’ve yet to hear anyone explain how knee-capping independant businesses saves an auto company a dime and it’s probably not an answer we’re ever going to get, but we’re hoping this family gets the chance to save their business.
