Gearhead Destination: The Bahrain International Circuit

Gearhead Destination: The Bahrain International Circuit

This week we’re flat-out dreaming. The country of Bahrain is literally swimming in oil money and one of the things it decided to do with a chunk of the cash was to build a world class racing facility. The government of Bahrain backed the construction of the track, which carried a hefty $56 million price tag. We really want to check it out.

The track has a road course that has hosted F1 events and all manner of touring car races and also has a dragstrip that just recently saw some American racers lay down some 6.0-second Pro Mod laps.

While the road course and the circle track that are available to use are neat, we really want to run some laps on the dragstrip. Drag racing and musclecars are thriving in the Middle East and probably no place more so than Bahrain. How cool would it be to have a timeslip from a track that’s literally half way around the world?

We’ve been working for a couple years on trying to ape a ride over there with some of the American racers who have been selling cars, driving cars, or tuning cars, for people in that region. The airfare alone would pay your mortgage for a couple months.

We can see the headlines now after we inadvertently cause an international incident!

See more about the track here.
