Helio Castroneves, the two-time Indy 500 champ and IndyCar racing standout, is on trial for allegedly hiding more than $5 million and not paying any taxes on it. Robin Miller, the well known racing journalist, is attending the trial and has provided some great commentary thus far.
According to Miller’s report, the jury is supposedly going to get the case on Friday, but with literally hundreds of items and documents having been introduced into evidence, he seems to think that it’s not going to be a quick deliberation process.
Castroneves has not driven thus far in the 2009 season but is hoping to get back in the car once the trial has ended. That supposed that he’s not sent to prison of course, which is a very real possibility here.
