Tannerite exploding rifle targets are pretty fun. I am by no means an experienced shooter but I have had some fun with firearms enthusiasts far more experienced than myself. One time I was able to hang out with some guys who were using these exploding targets so I thought I had a small idea about what 40lbs of exploding targets would look like stuffed into an old VW Jetta that was parked way out in an empty field. Turns out I had no idea. The blast that is created when the shooter connects with the car is incredible. It is so significant that there’s a crater left in the middle of the field and it takes seconds…many seconds for all the pieces to land.
The guy shooting the video makes quick mention that this is happening as part of a guy’s bachelor party and we think that is kind of neat. The cost for that amount of Tannerite targets would be about $300-$400 we think but the memories of blowing up a car? Those last a lifetime. Obviously you need significant space to pull this off and not end up hurting yourself, others, or going to jail. In fact, we’re wondering if they let the local cops know what was going on…if there are local cops where they boys were at. We think that would be a courtesy move so they don’t show up loaded for bear, or worse.
This is big, dumb fun, but sometimes when you are with your pals and your can get away with it, we all love having some big, dumb fun. Right?

There’s another video of a guy in his 20’s who loaded an old yard tractor full of this stuff. Unfortunately, he shot it from a very close range, and the shrapnel severed his leg completely off!
You can hear his dad screaming in the background. It’s pretty disturbing.
I work with industrial explosives every day, but this stuff scares the hell out of me. Not because it\’s dangerous, but rather that theres idiots using it. People keep doing dumb shit and it will no longer be for sale at the local sporting goods store. Hear me morons? Unless you want to get the BATFE involved stop blowing big shit up! Then putting it on the interwebs for everyone to see. Stupid.
