Incredible Photos: Mercedes Skewered By 90ft of Guardrail in Denmark, 22 Year Old Driver Not Killed!

BangShift reader and forum member Arild Guldbrandsen lives in Norway and he posted up one of the wildest links we have seen in some time on the BS forums the other day. This link shows photos taken in Denmark after a wreck involving a Mercedes and more than 90ft of metal guardrail. The Mercedes is destroyed, completely skewered by the steel beams that make up the guardrail and amazingly the driver, a 22 year old man, survived virtually unharmed. If things were mere inches different, he’s be as dead as a steak kebab.

According to the translation we got from the website, the police in Denmark have not ruled out high speeds or impaired driving. Think this could have been the result of speeding while drunk? Sounds like a potential cause to us! Scroll down to see the photos, they really tell the story as well as the link to the Norwegian site they came from.

Thanks Arild for the tip!

ugh, don’t need to be seeing any wrecks with guardrails skewering cars… a racer lost his life just recently up at Thompson Raceway Park in Ohio due to this same situation

Ratty makes a good point – armco barrier is really dangerous and these photos illustrate that point. The guard rail didn’t do its job and this guy is lucky to be alive.

Back in the mid 70’s I witnessed a similar accident on Route 93 about 7am on a Sunday morning. Just shear luck (play on words) that the driver was unhurt. I was 2nd on the scene, the first being a State Trooper. The guard rail went about 20 feet through a VW bug. The bug was hanging there with all four tires about a foot off the ground. At first I didn’t see the driver but the trooper’s face was devoid of any color. He looked like he was going to throw up. I’m thinking “I don’t want to see this” Then I saw the driver sitting on the grass and saw that he had all his limbs intact. He didn’t even have any scratches. He had fallen asleep. Fortunately for him the guard rail entered and exited the vehicle right down the center on the car front to rear. If the car had the engine in the front, he would have been toast.

Let’s not blame the guardrail too much. Road looks dry, in the pics. I wouldn’t be so quick to let this driver off the hook. He isn’t on a race track or drag strip he is on a public road way. The article says they aren’t ruling out high speeds and impaired driving. Instead of a guard rail it could have been my family, your family or anybody’s family being involved in an accident with this 22 year old.

As this picture shows————Driving isn’t for everybody.
