Just as we were about to ditch the BangShift newsroom and start chugging beers tonight, we caught wind of a story that gives us more reason to be hopeful that the shuttering of Irwindale Speedway is only a temporary thing. The Pasadena Star News is reporting that more than 20 parties have contacted track property owner Nu Way Industries of Acadian, California about taking over the operation of the track. That’s the good news. The bad news is that none of that business can move forward until the bankruptcy filing, put in by the former operators of the track can be cleared up. Those guys are looking worse and worse as the days go by.
The man who runs Nu Way, Jim Mnoian was quoted as saying, “My plans are to find a new operator. As soon as this gets through bankruptcy, we’ll find if a new operator wants to lease it. Everybody’s hands are tied until the bankruptcy is done.” The story also says that the company will publicly reveal their plans for the facility next week, apparently to have an official statement on record.
The first bankruptcy hearing is slated for March 20th. Hopefully things move at a somewhat brisk pace so new operators can assume their roles and open the track back up to be used.
