Krikey: Aukland, New Zealand Racer Charged $25K For Doing a Burnout

Talk about your expensive mistakes! A New Zealand V8 Ute racer decided to have a little fun after racing was over one weekend during the 2009 season and felt the need to rip donuts and do a massive burnout in a parking lot. That proved to be a really horrible decision because the owners of the property came after the guy and eventually he was convicted of a traffic offense and ordered to repay the business the cost of the paving job, or $25,000.

You certainly cannot condone what this guy did, as destruction of private property is not something that should ever be given an “atta-boy.” That being said, you’ve got to feel bad for the dude for getting this type of financial wallop. Unless he really destroyed the asphalt somehow, we were thinking that the lot could have been seal coated, which would have covered the marks and erased the damage done. Apparently that was not an option and the paving crew was brought in.

The traffic violation that he was charged with kind of cracked us up. The name of the violation was, “Sustained loss of traction.”

We’re no angels and we have, in fact, been a part, both directly and indirectly of more than a couple “sustained losses of traction.” None has ever cost us anything more than replacement tires, though. We’re felling lucky as hell about that right now.
