Land Speed Photos: Cool Action Images From The Final SCTA El Mirage Meet Of 2015

(Photos by Zane McNary) – It’s the fastest dirt on Earth. A tricky, silty, unforgiving surface that has been part of the land speed racing realm in America for decades and it is the place where the SCTA races most often every year. The final meet of the 2015 SCTA season took place on those familiar grounds at El Mirage drag lake bed and it was clear that people came to let it all hang out for the final blast of the year. Coming out of the event, the massive 277mph speed recorded by the 911 blown fuel roadster had every buzzing but there were TONS of records and solid runs laid down over the course of the weekend. We’re thankful that intrepid BangShift land speed shooter extrodinare Zane McNary was there to document the action with his lens. This is some great stuff.

While the photos featuring the cars are obviously the ones you are most interested in, the opening image with the sun beginning to rise is a favorite of ours. Sunrise in the world of land speed racing means that the action is about to start. It means that wrenching time is over and talking time is over. Sunlight means speed and speed is what everyone in the land speed realm lives for. These are great images!
